I created this work or art by cutting up some fabric then glueing it to the wood. I put safety pins on the butterflies to really show that they were pinned down and that they could escape even if they wanted to. I put stars on the striped fabric to represent the Star of David on the uniforms. Some things I learned while creating it is that butterflies are a symbol of hope for the Holocaust. Something else I wanted to share is that on the frame in German the phrase says “Work and you shall be set free.” I wanted this because that sentence really stuck with me while learning about the Holocaust.
