Honor the Past, Build the Future

Dimitar Dimov Georgiev

In the spring of 2019, a competition of essays and posters dedicated to the Holocaust and the commemoration of 76 years since the rescue of the Bulgarian Jews was organized in the Secondary School “P. R. Slaveikov” in Kardzhali for the students from 9th and 11th grades. The 29 students presented 11 essays and 14 posters and the best results were rewarded by the principal of the school. Movies related to the Holocaust and the rescue of the Bulgarian Jews were projected in the school Hall and a visit to the Synagogue in Plovdiv was organized for students and teachers. “This project gave me a chance to learn many things about the history of the Jewish people. I’m really impressed by the information which I found about them while I was writing my essay for the competition. Visiting the Synagogue inspired me even more.” wrote one of the 9th grade students involved in the project.
