A grant from the Library enabled a Holocaust Awareness Panel at Pathways School this past Spring which highlighted the Rocky Mountain director of Facing History, the director of Colorado Coalition for Genocide Awareness and Prevention, and a “lost boy” from Sudan named Arok. This event was the culminating activity of a month- long study of the Holocaust at the school, which serves at-risk youth in Colorado. Teachers were provided with a copy of Sondra Perl’s book On Austrian Soil and supported through a month-long dialogue of upstanders, genocide prevention and awareness, and Holocaust education. This entire project allowed students to engage in thoughtful dialogue, an intense study of Holocaust literature, and provided them with curriculum and support in taking action on human rights.
