Remembering What You Saw
recipients: Sue Fletcher, Assistant Professor of Communications, Hocking College, OH
date: February 2010 and 2011

In February 2010 and then again in 2011, Sue Fletcher, along with students from her freshman composition course, visited the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum with support from the Memorial Library. This experience serves as the culmination of a Freshman Composition course taught by Ms. Fletcher and her colleague, Luke Horn. Their primary focus is on the Holocaust and also the experience of veterans.  In preparation for their trip, they read excerpts from Simon Wiesenthal’s The Sunflower as well as Olga Lengyel’s Five Chimneys and completed a multi-genre research project on a Holocaust topic or another concern where human rights have been severely violated. Following their visit to the museum, they presented a short program related to their study and experience to one of the VFW groups that has also provided funding for trips for two senior English classes at Tri Country Career Center.

Sue Fletcher and her college students discuss their trip to the US Holocaust Memorial Museum. Watch the video here.
