As part of NSUWP’s K-16 partnership with my school, my seniors conducted research on Jewish life in Nazi Germany and the Holocaust, and they’re now working to recreate and adapt a scene from Macbeth set in that time period. They presented their research to Dr. Housel last Tuesday, and he was impressed with their work so far. We’re still in the early stages, but I’m looking forward to the process as well as the finished product. Also, my journalism classes are now using the USC Shoah Foundation Institute’s online learning site, iWitness. They’re viewing and doing projects daily with Survivor testimonies, with the ultimate goal of creating a final project by making a video of their own using online video editing equipment. My juniors have just completed a unit using fiction and nonfiction pieces from Prism Holocaust journal published by Yeshiva University, and my CART homeroom and others students are waiting on a date to be set by the Natch. Historic Society so that they can go clean the Jewish Cemetery in town. I guess that about sums it all up! 😉
