I have been working as part of the leadership team this week for a TOLI satellite here in Billings, Montana, where I live. Of course, Olga’s book has been on my mind. At times, I get bogged down in this work and find myself sad and angry. Today we discussed contemporary antisemitism, and I was feeling it. We were also discussing, at lunch, the…[Read more]

Hi, Suki. I wonder which questions and interactions are scary to you, and I wonder how you answer the questions of what you are willing or unwilling to make yourself vulnerable. Will you share?

Wow! What a thought-provoking thread. I too, feel challenged to bring my whole self into the classroom; some of my reasons are the same as yours, and some are different, and I also have some trepidation to do so. Growing up as the only Jew in a very Christian-centric area, I was constantly made aware that my teachers were Christian. I still see my…[Read more]

Angie, I appreciate this perspective. I hadn’t thought about religious learning in the context of education, but truly, what is education other than the study of what it means to be human? Of course, then, religion falls in. I will say that in my experience with Judaism, people are encouraged and expected to question, to ponder, to interpret, and…[Read more]

I was also really moved by this section of the book. I too have been to quite a few of what remains of the camps. In this way, I felt like my barn and Sondra’s were similar, meaning reading her words brought me right back to those places and the overwhelming grief. Should she have taken her Austrian students there? I don’t know. I wonder where the…[Read more]

Wow. Sondra’s book is hitting me in quite a few places. I read it a few years ago when I first started getting to know TOLI though a satellite seminar I attended here in Montana, and this second read feels different. I have a new set of eyes to read it with.
On a personal level, I find some interesting similarities and differences with Sondra’s…[Read more]

Hi, Katie.
Every course I took from Jenny Marlow I really enjoyed. I appreciated her teaching style. Her Gender and Genocide course was probably my favorite, though. How about you?

Hi, Katie.
I am also an alum of Gratz. I graduated last April. Your name looked so familiar to me, and that may be why. When did you graduate? I feel like we may have had some courses together. -

Hi, Mary Ann.
I am fascinated by the intersection of White Nationalism and misogyny. I never considered how those two might be related, but my wheels are spinning now! I look forward to some interesting conversations.

What a wealth of experience you bring! I am excited to meet you and share conversations. I attended the 2014 Holocaust and Jewish Resistance Teachers Program with a gentleman from Boca Raton, Eugene Davis. I wonder if your paths have crossed? -
