If you are familiar with the DHM, it’s a small museum. Becuase of it’s size, they have chosen to focus on just one date, April 19, 1943. So in addition to attending on Yom […] View

Pre-service Teachers Observe Yom HaShoah with Holocaust Survivor

On April 19, 2012, Yom HaShoah, a day for remembering the tragedy of the Holocaust, Dr. Carol Revelle’s content literacy class visited the Dallas Holocaust Museum, the culminating event for a model text set on the Holocaust. The pre-service teachers toured the museum and met Mike Jacobs, a Holocaust survivor from Poland. Jacobs’ parents and siblings were all murdered at Treblinka. Jacobs was sent to a work camp and then to Auschwitz-Birkenau. His memoir, Holocaust Survivor: Mike Jacobs’ Triumph over Tragedy recounts the five years he spent in ghettos and concentration camps before his liberation in May of 1945.
Pictured with Holocaust Survivor and author, Mike Jacobs, are UNT pre-service teachers: (left to right) Jill Goerner, Mandy Stewart (graduate assistant), Amy Meszko, Heidi Strickland, Tamera Maas, Megan Fruia, Jeanette Cervantes, Martine Harnois, Asia Smiley, Kristina Moreland, and Julie Gowin.
