Comparing these two books, both beautiful and so unique in scope and structure, bring me to understand more of what I tried to articulate earlier – that the most essential purpose of education is to help us know ourselves, to make possible our own appreciation of our gifts and abilities, and to have the confidence to wrangle them in service of our beliefs. I am struck with such respect for both Perl and Krug (do we call her Sondra due to our upcoming in-person adventure?) as writers and creators of memoir as story. So skillfully did they surface themes and iterative ideas for the reader that make each work have meaning far beyond the plot. Masterful.

I also appreciate the way the comparison urged those who have responded before me to reflect on their own histories. I am so eager to meet everyone this week!! We have much to learn from one another.

      With optimism and respect,

      Lauren
