Audrey, you response and comments about Anna’s question re: Judaism remind me of the difficulty I have in explaining the various roles and positions of Jews in European societies before the Holocaust. Some Jews practiced very strict forms of Judaism (as you probably know), esp. in Poland and other eastern regions. While other Jews were less…[Read more]

Carly, what great examples you give in your response to the reading. Thank you. I esp. love that you watched and then discussed in class the video your students were discussing. What integrity you showed them.

I found that the second half (?) of the book was much easier to read in larger chunks (many commented on the time they needed to get through beginning sections–to set the book down, etc.).
I thought much about the things or views I am afraid to confront (out of cynicism, resignation, and fear I get far too emotional–and can’t access all my…[Read more]

The paralysis theme seems to fit my inability to write my first response. There is so much to take in. This part speaks to me right now, p. 104, about why we must teach our…[Read more]

In reply to: Aimee Rogers changed their profile picture ViewHi Aimee,
I just got home from traveling. Yes–criss-crossing. And… I know several nicknames for FLC, too, in fact, that’s all I heard about the place before I got here 14 years ago. I like to think I have helped the nicknames improve during my time here (but I have no evidence yet). See you in a few weeks! –Ellen -

Hello from a dry place!
I live in the high desert mountains of southwest Colorado and teach history at a small public liberal arts school in the Four Corners–Fort Lewis College. I arrived here in 2004 and in the intervening years have acquired a loving family, several loving dogs (and a cat), and a home in a nice neighborhood. I love to work…[Read more]
