Ashley Harbel started the topic Pearl and Krug comparison in the forum Looking at Perl & Krug: due JUNE 15 (or earlier) 10 months, 1 week ago
As I was reading Belonging and reflecting on Sondra’s experience, there were a few things that stood out to me.
First, was the desire to know and understand our past and where we come from. In spite of the two different backgrounds and family history, both Pearl and Krug have a desire to understand what happened to their families and examine h…[Read more] -

Kelly,
I loved this line you wrote, “However, it also struck me that her quest for understanding is inherently privileged because she and her family were German, and not Jewish.” This is something that I was not thinking about at the time of reading it, but something that I had discussed afterwards as I shared my reading experience with my friend…[Read more]

Jeremy,
I love the last line that you wrote – “If the quest to discover one’s Heimat is ultimately about seeking the truth, then the term is indeed powerful”. Belonging was a beautiful book. I was first struck by the graphic nature of it. What is a more beautiful way to show this need…[Read more]

Ashley Harbel started the topic Reflection – Second time around 2023 in the forum On Austrian Soil 2023 Summer Seminar Responses: due MAY 30 11 months, 1 week ago
As I have been rereading On Austrian Soil, I actually dove back into my initial responses on the discussion forum from 2020. It is funny to look back at where my head was at as we were all staying home and isolating and how my thoughts have both stayed the same and changed since then.
One thing that I noticed and something that stood out to me…[Read more]

Hello,
Looking forward to seeing all of you in person! Sounds like Montana spring is similar to NH. We had 80 degree weather in April for a week and then cold. This is the first week I am in short sleeves since then!
